Los Cuernos - Renewal
The stark Antarctic Beech (Nothofagus antarctica)trees stand as skeletons in the aftermath of 3 ferocious fires that have plagued Chile's Torres del Paine National Park since 2005. The most recent fire occurred in 2011/2012 scorching more than 40,000 acres of park land. All 3 fires were the result of careless visitors traveling through the park. While forest restoration programs are ongoing, some species take hundreds of years to mature.
